ED you can pick and choose your stats however you like. It's like me pulling up how many aerial duals Bowen won. I get it that you want a ball playing midfielder. From what I witnessed I'd be surprised if anyone had decent pass completion stats. Everyone was guilty of constantly giving away the ball. Fact is Soucek made the key pass for Bowen to score.

Soucek attempted 26 passes yesterday, and completed 16. Sixteen completed passes from central midfield. That's against Bournemouth.
You're right though, that's definitely an improvement on last season.

He had a decent game yesterday. I think he will have a better season. He isnt going to turn into the player many would want but good character, hard worker and a threat at set pieces. Like to see competition for his place.

I moan about Soucek all the time so I'm not going to defend him because he had a bad season last year.
Transfermarkt show his value as 35m Euros which is probably right for a 60 cap international captain that historically scores 1 in 6/7 games from midfield for club and country.
That hides his poor control and passing at times but he still has a value and is worth a lower contract probably. That makes him an average PL player that Moyes obviously trusts and he is probably a good voice in the changing room.
I reckon he will do much better this season tbh. Only my feelings because I still moan about him but with better set pieces he could be a 10 goal man...

I hope I'm completely wrong as it will only be of benefit to West ham. However I can't see why Moyes has wanted to reward him after a torrid season last year, his stats were abysmal and many fans got on his back. Of course there were circumstances at play such as Rice and everyone not being at their best during parts of the season but again to go through games coasting, costing us goals, he was a massive part of the downfall we suffered in the league. Again, I don't think he had been given enough rest, he is probably the one player Moyes has run into the ground but surely a professional can do the very basics of the game, something he seemed to completely lack. As I say, I hope I'm wrong and the negativity gets shoved right back down my throat. I just can't see the reasoning behind giving him a solid new deal, where is the motivation to get back into form etc when his future is already set in stone. Moyes has just given him even more rope to hang himself on.

lovely bloke but is anonymous most games now. struggles to pass the ball further than ten yards, but of course the anti football test couldn't wait to extend him. the armband later will top it off 😂

The fact that he was hawked around by his agent and nobody wanted him tells you all you need to a know. A dreadful footballer and his stats fully back that up.

Soucek and Moyes I moan about all the time mate but let's be reasonable. Soucek and his agent asked for £100k pw contract last summer and it was turned down. That might just be why his performances slipped last season as well as his changed role in the team..
The new contract they have agreed is a lot less and probably around £75k pw. Without it he could leave on a free next summer as he signed his 4 year contract in July 2020.
Let's not forget that he's a 60 cap international captain of Czech Republic that scores goals except for last season where his role changed. I have a feeling he will be much better this year but only a feeling....

It's obvious what Moyes wants but surely a conversation has to be had at board level about signing off on a deal that will cost the club about 10 million quid if not more.
All it does is allow Moyes to continue to pick him without any come back apart from us losing games as its like playing with 10 men, his pass rate is fucking atrocious to give someone a 4 year extension. Moyes goes at the end of the season and we are left with him. Good business sense.
I wouldn't want Sullivan making the footballing decisions at all but rewarding the likes of Soucek a new deal falls back onto Moyes which in turn falls back onto Sullivan. Here we have people wanting out left right and centre because of Moyes and here's Sullivan giving his lovechild 4 more years.

Steve mate that's a ridiculous post.
You blame Sullivan for signing off on a football contract. I know it's Soucek but it's obviously what Moyes wants and he's currently our captain.
Would you really prefer Sullivan to make the football decisions?

Sullivan is a budget billionaire
It wouldn't surprise me if his Rolls Royce is a couple of old fucking vauxhall novas crushed together and a paint job done so well it's made Van Gogh turn in his grave.
Sullivan is all about image but little does he understand everyone can see through his bullshit and the only thing that matters is the decisions he makes. Signing off on a 4 year extension for Soucek has to be up there as one of the most head scratching, and he's made many of those.
